2-Weeks already! Today I felt like putting up an inspirational quote and ran into this one with Mr. Rogers. Like in the quote, I looked for helpers today and some looked at me as one which was a great feeling. I didn’t think I would have missed helping but I noticed it and a big reason for that is because I provided helpful support for 6 years in my last job before I parted ways with them. Trying to help my new friends along with knowing not to forget to help myself is so important right now because you can fall behind so fast if you don’t stay focused. I discussed this with a few of my classmates today and we noticed some frustration floating about in the classroom today involving communication between student and instructor, it was a bit awkward and tense for a few minutes but it got hugged out. During a lunch conversation I found out from my classmate there are Chinese language bootcamps in the US. She said the duration of the program you live with a Chinese person and must speak it 24/7 and if you slip up you could be kicked out, wild man! Good thing they aren’t strict as that in our bootcamp because I’ve slipped up more than once ^_^.
It must be terribly hard for RocketU to accommodate double the amount of students compared to the first cohort. I have the upmost respect for the people running our program by keeping it all together. I am learning something new about my classmates everyday and we are all starting to gel more and more which adds to the cool experience.
After missing out on my weekly basketball meet ups I tapped into some stored up energy Thursday night which allowed me to get away from the computer for a few hours. I needed this exercise and was definitely drained today from running full court games last night (9-10:30pm). Yay on making the winning shot the last game of the night but BOOO on my drive to the hoop when my legs cramped up and I collapsed in pain for a minute. It was hilarious but sad at the same time, had to be there to see it! I miss joking around and shooting hoops with the fellas!
I started to fade fast after inhaling my fat juicy sandwich I picked up for lunch from a small mom/pop shop called Good Luck Cafe and Deli on the border of the FIDI and Chinatown. The mom and pop were super nice there, def. will revisit. We had a lot of free time to work on our exercises today after setting up our Facebook Developers account in the morning. It was fun setting up an FB log in button in an html page within our local environment on our computers then trying to figure out how to generate a log out button with that functionality behind it.
There are still plenty more exercises to work through using the Facebook, Google, and Twitter API’s. I plan to finish those up over the weekend so decided to take a POETs day. POETs stand for P-ISS.O-FF.E-ARLY.T-OMORROWS.S-ATURDAY. I learned this important saying from my online instructor Nick who is from the UK and apparently they use it quite often there, must be nice haha. When I got home early today I had some time to myself so I finished creating a simple game of Tic Tac Toe which involved using HTML5, JAVASCRIPT and CSS3. The Tic Tac Toe tutorial I used can be found in the source file. Jeez, it’s oh so late now, so I’m off to dream in code again…. peace
